Catholic Mission Statement

Ethos and Values Statement: 

“What we are called to respect in each person is first of all his life, his physical integrity, his dignity and the rights deriving from that dignity, his reputation, his property, his ethnic and cultural identity, his ideas and his political choices. We are therefore called to think, speak and write respectfully of the other, not only in his presence, but always and everywhere, avoiding unfair criticism or defamation. Every child, parent, governor and member of the school community is unique in self, unique in qualities to offer. All are made in the image and likeness of God. God explicitly values the equality of all, rejects discrimination of any kind. All aspects of our school, the relationships, the curriculum, the policies, the aims and objectives, the pastoral care and discipline have the potential to speak of God's presence in our lives helping us to unlock our potential. The purpose of a Catholic school is to jointly ‘hand on the faith' in partnership with home and parish. The faith journey is begun by parents at Baptism and our aim is to support each child in their journey of faith, working alongside parents, the first educators of the children. As a Catholic school we value the importance of the spiritual journey made by pupils, staff, parents, parishioners, governors and parish priests with the school acting as a cornerstone.

Aims

• Promote an understanding and appreciation of Catholic teaching and practice.
• Develop the skills required to engage in examination of and reflection upon Religious belief and practice.
• Educate and enrich each individual and develop values that reflect the gospel message and the teaching of the  church.
• Foster and promote the moral and spiritual development of pupils.
• Promote and encourage active and committed participation and service in the life of the church and its community.
• Place Christ at the Centre of our community.
• Develop a relationship with God by responding to the presence of God in their lives through prayer and reflection.
• Develop knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Faith in partnership with school, home and parish.
• Foster attitudes of respect and understanding for the beliefs and traditions of other faiths and of the global community.
• Preparing our children to take their place in an ever-changing world as witnesses to Christ and good citizens.
