Link School in Nigeria
We are currently fundraising for our link school in Nigeria - St Michael's Community Primary School, Nanka.
This is the school our Parish Priest, Father Damian, attended as a child. The school made us a video so we could see a typical day at their school. The children are happy and successful but there are many things they need. The Head teacher's biggest wish is running, drinking water for the children. Many of the pupils go all day without a drink of water in extremely hot conditions.
In a joint fundraising effort, with the parishioners of Our Lady & St Benedict we recently succeeded in raising £8000:
Christmas jumper day 2017 £225
Christmas jumper day 2018 £345
Easter Smarties challenge 2019 £250
Summer raffle and summer fair 2019 - £697
Parish donations - £6465
In September 2019 we gave the parish priest in Nanka the good news that we have raised this money and he has told us the work to begin installing a water pump at the school will begin shortly. Watch this space for updates.
The video of the Nigerian school can be found on youtube: https://youtu.be/9NMEJBmpvzc
We are delighted to confirm that in 2020 work has started for the pump installation. Due to the very arid conditions they had to dig over 880 feet before they reached water, however it has been successful. All of the money raised so far has been spent on the drilling. A further £8000 is needed to install a water tank and so further fundraising has begun.
If you are able to donate any money to this cause, your donation would be truly appreciated. Please click on the crowdfunding link below:
