‘One family united in Christ to be the best we can be’

Class 1 (Reception)

Class 1

Hello and welcome to the Class 1 page. My name is Miss Perch, and I am delighted to be the class teacher in Reception. We are lucky to have the support of Mrs Bell, who is our teaching assistant. Here you will find all the information you may need. This includes are timetable and our topics for the year.

This half term we have a range of different topics that will excite the children. We will be looking at Fireworks/Diwali, Nursery Rhymes, Fruit and Veg, Light and Dark, Winter, Christmas/Nativity.

In maths, we are learning our numbers to 10.  We are exploring number knowledge and making sure the children are secure in the basic mathematic concepts.  By concentrating on these, the children will have a secure knowledge which they can build on. The children will be counting, adding, subtracting and subitising.  We will also be looking at patterns, shapes, measure and time.

In English we will continue with a daily phonic session.  The children will learn 4 new phonemes (sounds) per week. The sessions will start with a recap of the phonemes already taught and then will have a new one introduced.  We will read, write and use the phonemes to make simple CVC words.  We will practice letter formation and encourage children to become independent writers.  Please encourage your child to use lower case letters when writing their name, with the initial letter only, a capital.

We will be reading daily to encourage a love of books.  We will be looking at the characters and settings in each story and discussing the structure of the stories.

Your child will bring home a book twice every week. We will expect that this book is shared at least three times during the week, and you add a comment to their reading record.
