St Mary's Catholic Primary School

‘One family united in Christ to be the best we can be’

Class 1 (Reception)

Class 1

I would personally like to welcome you to our class page. My name is Miss Duxbury and I am delighted to be the class teacher in Reception (class 1). I believe I am in one of the luckiest teaching roles within the school as I have the opportunity to support children during their transition into primary school. This is a big milestone within a child’s life and I aim to ensure children feel safe, secure and happy at St. Mary’s, above anything else. I look forward to building strong relationships with the children and you, their parents. We are lucky to have the support of Mrs Pakeman who is our teaching assistant in class 1.

This year we have some exciting topics, trips and activities planned, this includes Antarctica, once upon a time, play village and hopefully a visit to the Coventry Motor Museum.  This term's topic is "A Farmers Life for Me", we will be exploring the life of a Farmer through a variety of texts. We have have our newly hatched ducklings to observe as they grow in size and develop their feathers. There may even be a surprise visit from a local farmer on his tractor! The curriculum in class 1 will continue to develop children's knowledge and understanding in all areas of learning. The core elements of their learning are centered around Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional development, Physical development, Literacy, Mathematics and RE. Excellent progress in these areas will provide a strong foundation for the development in other areas. You can find a copy of class 1's timetable by following the link below.

PE lessons will be taught on Tuesday afternoon this term, please can you ensure that your child comes to school in their full PE uniform on these days and that earing's are either removed by the child for lessons or not worn on PE days. Staff cannot remove children's earing's. Homework will be set on a Friday and due in the following Thursday; homework will evolve throughout the year to reflect the children’s stage of development. I would like to remind you that arrival at school is between 8:35 and 8:45 and dismissal is at 3:00.

Seesaw is a communication platform for teaching and learning. All other communication should be sent via the school office for the attention of the staff member.

It is a privilege to teach the children in class 1 and I look forward to watching them grow and develop into young members of our school community as the year progresses.

Kind regards

Miss Duxbury
