St Mary's Catholic Primary School

‘One family united in Christ to be the best we can be’

Achievements

We were very appreciative of this letter, which arrived in January 2020, from the Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP congratulating us on our 2019 key stage 2 writing achievements, which place us, for writing, in the top 1% of primary schools in the country.

In January 2020 we were delighted to receive this letter from Warwickshire County Council congratulating us on our recent Ofsted report. Their summary of the report is everything we are proud of.

St Mary's in the top 1% of primary schools based on phonics success

For the sixth year running we have received a letter from Nick Gibb, the Minister of State for School Reform, congratulating us on our high standard of achievement in this year’s phonics check. The phonics check is a statutory national assessment set by the Department for Education to confirm whether individual children have learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate standard by the end of year one. Since it was introduced in 2012 our school has successfully achieved a 100% pass rate for seven years running. Only 2% of schools nationally can boast a 100% pass rate and even fewer can reach this accolade consistently for SEVEN years.

St Mary’s ranked 4th in Warwickshire

Our school has been announced as the 4th highest primary school in Warwickshire. The primary school league tables published in both the Telegraph and The Times on 11.12.15 shows the top 1000 primary schools in the Country and the top 100 primary schools in the County. Following phenomenal key stage two SATS results St Mary’s Henley is currently 4th in the County and 410th in the Country. Considering there are over 24,000 primary schools in the United Kingdom a national ranking of 410 equates to the top 1% nationally of primary schools. A snapshot of the top 6 schools in the County, taken from last Friday’s Times is shown below.
